MURDER IN THE DARK A Johnny Sundance Mystery Book 14 edition by Ronald Yarosh Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

  • Johnny Sundance is at it again - once again hired to assist the Eden Palms PD with solving a bizarre murder with little to no clues. If you have read prior Sundance stories, you already know that our favorite PI, Johnny Sundance, must track down the murderer of a well loved, middle-aged business owner with three grown children. As the clues unfold, Johnny finds and follows every single clue and every witness. It seems like each time a suspect is found, the evidence fizzles and the suspect is cleared. Once again he is piecing together the puzzle. I thoroughly enjoy these stories as we travel the twists and turns of the case with Johnny until the killer is finally found, or is he? As with all the Sundance mysteries, you need to read the story to find out for sure. I am looking forward to more in this series.
  • I enjoyed this novel very much. Ron has a way of changing up the techniques that Johnny Sundance uses to solve the crimes he does. Even showing the frustrations of trying to solve crimes is realistic and reasonable. We'd suffer the same frustrations if it was us trying to solve the murder. Well done Ron, can't wait for the next one!
  • Two young boys discover a dead body in an empty house. Johnny Sundance is called to help out the police since they are short handed. Johnny does his usual investigation. This is a great series with great characters. A lot of suspects and not a lot of clues.
  • Johnny Sundance, Seminole Indian, former football star/FBI agent/police detective/consulting investigator gets called in to the Eden Palms, Florida, Police Department on a strangled Jane Doe. The department is short-staffed, slammed with cases, and the police chief is on vacation. There are a lot of suspects – a homeless man who may have been in the house, the woman’s boyfriend, the angry ex-husband, the ex con who gave her a ride home from a bar …

This is entry No. 14 in the Johnny Sundance series. It’s a traditional detective story in the style of Dragnet (I always hear Jack Webb doing the narration in these). The plots are interesting, and the characters likeable. These books hold my interest, and I enjoy following along with Johnny as he works the case, picking up clues others miss. There are no pyrotechnics in these stories, just solid, dogged police work. And Johnny does it while struggling with a brain tumor.

The books can be read out of order. I started with book 1 and the next time I picked up a Sundance, it was book 9 or 10 and I did get whiplash when I read about the health issue. I was like what, wait, where – and then I realized I had jumped a bunch of books. But I could still pick up the threads of the story, which is a testament to the writer’s skill. I will read more in this series.
  • Two young boys are on a home construction site, hoping to locate enough scrap wire and metal to make them a few bucks. What they find in an upstairs cupboard is like nothing they've ever seen before - or hope to again. The gruesome discovery sends them scurrying home to summon police and to the comfort of their parents' arms.

Ron Yarosh's Johnny Sundance is, as ever, determined to get to the bottom of who the victim and the perp are, plus the motive for the brutal killing. Despite his own ongoing health issues and red herrings by the shoal, you can be sure that Johnny Sundance always gets his man (or woman).
Murder in the Dark is the latest - and possibly greatest - Johnny Sundance case yet and I love the way Johnny is human and flawed, yet determined to seek justice for an innocent woman, whose life has been so brutally curtailed. All the characters are well executed and engaging (or repulsive), fully-rounded out and believable, while Johnny's 'sidekicks' Detective Sergeant Brenda Sharp and Sergeant Alex Dalton play important roles in the team that will help ensure success.

Another 5-star winner for Ron Yarosh in the latest in the Johnny Sundance PI series, that's not to be missed. Get your copy today - and tell all your friends!
  • As an ARC member, I received a free copy and am giving my honest review. This Johnny Sundance Mystery is a gripping tale that takes you on Johnny's investigation into the murder of a woman in an empty house being renovated with a lot of construction work inside. The police ask Johnny for his help solving this murder. As the former head detective in the Homicide division, he knows how to solve cases. He is faced with many possibilities and they seem to all go away quickly. Johnny keeps plugging away and you will be caught up in the process. Well written.
  • I received a copy of this book for free from the author as an ARC and have voluntarily chosen to review it.
Another great murder mystery by Mr. Yarosh. He has such a way of coming up with murders that are totally unexpected and difficult for the super intelligent Johnny Sundance to solve. There are enough twists and turns to make you dizzy and still not figure out who the murderer was till the end of the story. Then you slap yourself on the head and say, "How did I miss that?" This story is definitely worth reading.
  • I received this book through ARC in exchange for an honest review. Johnny Sundance is called in to find who stuffed a read woman in a closet. He's been recuperating from a brain tumor but is in remission. Can Johnny solve this complicated case, has he still got what it takes? The author leads you down the twisted path with great characters and a precise hand. The ending , I didn't figure it out, can you? I've read many mysteries and I'm rapidly becoming a huge fan of this series! Enjoy, it's a winner!
