- This is a great book! I bought it for my husband for our first wedding anniversary back in 2006. He loves driving and road trips and we were getting ready to move from NC to CA. This book was perfect! We followed the Loneliest Road trip and it was so much fun. So many quirky things to stop and see along the way. We also used it driving some of the California coast and then again when we moved from CA to MO (hello world's largest rocking chair!). Now we live in FL and can use it for sights along the coast here. My 4yo daughter loves looking at the pictures too. Since our copy is over 10 years old, I'm sure there are some updates, but I would not hesitate to buy it again if you are planning a trip or just like reading about fascinating sites around the country!
- Very small print, very difficult to follow (if you're expecting it to start at one part of the country and end at another, you'll be disappointed) bouncing around from one part of the country to another with no logical flow. Very incomplete, the book basically is about 7 road trips on 7 fairly main roads missing out on a LOT of really good smaller roads (for example, Utah which manages to fit into about 5 pages of a 946 page book!) Not only did they not give much time to Utah, they failed to mention 2 of the most amazing roads and National Parks in the state, Zion and Bryce and Route 12! Glaring omission!
- What a great book. Just makes me want to pack my trailer and hit the road. Great advice for my recent trip to South Dakota. The approach of this book is to pick large two lane treks, Their route may be different than yours, but the advice, including lodging, restaurants and things to see is all solid and useful.
- Purchased the book as a gift for someone and it arrived today. However, as you can see from the photos, the book was printed upside down. Yes, you got it, upside down. Now, I don't have enough time to repurchase and have the gift arrive prior to leaving for the holidays. Be sure you thumb through yours before you "gift" it to someone. I'm rating it low, not due to the content, but that this wasn't caught prior to publishing and sending. Creates a huge hassle now which could have been prevented if someone had done their due diligence.
- It IS revised. I was skeptical that this was just a reprinting, but upon close inspection I found many additions were made. It's about 50 pages thinner than the last edition as well, but looks like all the content from the last edition is kept in. The 50 fewer pages, don't know how they did it, makes the book much easier to carry around. Buy this one, not a used sixth edition. This is THE book on american highway road trips.
- This book afforded us some good entertainment on our road trip across America last month. We enjoyed reading a paragraph or two out loud as we approached the next state line. The book is well written and researched. The background and stories they included in it were enough to make the trip interesting as well as spark interest to delve deeper into different areas of local interest and history.
- I bought this for me to see where I want to go. The first day I received it my wife took it and has never returned it. She keeps telling me we are going here or there. She really Loves it, hope I get to look at it again before she wears it out.
